#WeAreAradia & Revelore Press announce:
Serpents of Circe:
A Manual to Magical Resilience
(The New Aradia, Volume III)
The New Aradia: A Witch’s Handbook to Magical Resistance and The Gorgon’s Guide to Magical Resistance have helped to empower people with magical tools of resistance during this time of uncertainty. Within their pages are sigils, spells, recipes, essays, invocations, rituals, and more, all gathered from experienced magical practitioners from around the world. In addition to serving as a tool for inspiration, teaching, and guidance, these magical tomes have had a real world impact, helping to raise over $6000 for organizations such as Emily’s List and Holler Health Rising.
Serpents of Circe follows in the footsteps of the first two volumes in The New Aradia series, collecting the wisdom and lived experiences of magical practitioners, activists, and teachers to serve as inspiration and a roadmap to crafting inclusive, inspired communities. It will take magic of all kinds – from the global to the hyper-local – for the work ahead of us.
So why have we chosen “Serpents of Circe” as a title? In keeping with the mythic realm of Aradia and the Gorgons, we are turning to Circe as inspiration for our third volume. Daughter of the sun god Helios and the ocean nymph Perse, Circe is a goddess of sorcery and said to be the first Witch in Greek Mythology. She was highly skilled in the magics of transmutation, herbalism and potion-making, as well as necromancy. Spiritually and metaphysically, serpents are beings of creation, renewal, and transformation as well as protectors and guides to the underworld. The combined energy of these two ideas speak to an evolving legacy of magic rooted in wisdom, sustainability, empowerment, flexibility, and practicality.
The kinds of contributions we are looking for include but are not limited to:
- Spells (justice, protection, sovereignty, empowerment, banishing, balance, etc.)
- Recipes (oils, incense, tea, infusions, etc.)
- Meditations, invocations, focus guides
- Brief rituals (group or solitary)
- Essays (history, inspirational stories)
- And more: practical advice, resources, and other instructions that fit the theme
Where possible, the workings should be “timeless”—applying to situations, not specific named individuals or places. Maximum length for a submission is 1000 words, and no more than two black and white illustrations, unless absolutely required for the integrity of the work. No photography. The book will be black and white, 5” x 7”, and about 100 pages (same size and style as the previous volumes of The New Aradia). This pocket-sized book will house a collection of essential elements to help guide other witches and magical practitioners.
Think: simple, effective, relatively easy to follow.
